Nantwich Town travel to Marston Road to face Stafford Rangers in the Doodson Sport League Cup tonight (January 8).

Jimmy Quinn’s side will be keen to build on Saturday’s second half performance against FC United.

The Dabbers produced a stirring fight-back from two goals down, but were beaten by a late winner against the run of play.

But Stafford are in top form. Their 3-1 win over Worksop Town saw them leapfrog Nantwich in the Evo-Stik Premier League.

And with local bragging rights at stake it is likely to be be a close encounter.

After elimination by Northwich Victoria and Newcastle Town at the entry-stage of the competition in the last two seasons, the Dabbers will be looking to overcome their League Cup hoodoo and progress to the fourth round.

After the defence’s shaky opening 10 minutes on Saturday, ex-Vics defender Joe Guest made a sparkling debut.

The former Crewe Alexandra youth will be hoping to secure a starting berth even if Crewe loanee Andy White has recovered from the injury that ruled him out of the FC United game.

Fraser McLachlan has left the Weaver Stadium for Warrington Town but fellow midfielder Niall Maguire and striker Simon Everall will both be keen to impress against their former club.

Kick off at Marston Road is at 7.45pm. The tie could be settled by extra time and penalties.
