Nantwich Town have strengthened their squad after an uncertain start to 2013-14 campaign.
The Dabbers, who sit fourth from bottom in Evo-Stik Premier League, have signed FC United midfielder Stephen Johnson.
The move was announced by FC United boss Karl Marginson, and will be a big boost for the Weaver Stadium after three consecutive league defeats.
Johnson made 32 appearances for the “Red Rebels” FC United last season.
Marginson said: “We are sorry to see Johno leave us again, but it has been very difficult for him travelling across from Liverpool for training.
“As everyone knows, non-contract players at this level are not paid unless they play.
“So financially it has been very difficult for him. He also has a youngster and has just started a new job so personal circumstances have played a major part in his decision.
“It is a decision I fully respect as a manager. As a club working together with our players, many who are young men with differing personal situations, there is always a commitment from my staff and the club to adopt an understanding and united approach to give everybody the best opportunity to be successful.
“Everyone at the club wishes Johno all the very best in the future. He’s been a popular member of the squad since his return and I’m sure he’ll be a success at Nantwich Town.”
Johnson’s arrival helps to fill a void left by Niall Maguire who has departed from the Weaver Stadium.
Dabbers boss Danny Johnson said: “Niall wants to play week in week out which I can’t guarantee any player at this football club will do.
“Niall has worked exceptionally hard throughout pre-season and I was really looking forward to working with him but I want to be successful and need competition all over the pitch.
“He conducted himself in the right manner and I have nothing but good things to say about him.
“My door is always open for a return at some stage. I am sure everyone at the club will join me in wishing Niall all the very best for the future.”
Nantwich welcome Danny Johnson’s old side Ashton United to Weaver Stadium tomorrow (August 31), kick off 3pm.
