A former bank manager is re-lighting her career – by opening a candle shop in Nantwich!
Beth Harrison has realised a childhood ambition with her new store, “For Candles of Nantwich”, on Hospital Street.
And for the 32-year-old, it is a real rise from the flames after a troubled year in which she lost her job and went through a divorce.
Beth, originally from Newcastle-under-Lyme, has started refurbishing the premises and plans to open in the third week of August.
And she can’t wait to wax lyrical with her customers and put her troubles well and truly behind her.
Beth said: “I was in banking for 14 years, but I was made redundant last year which was a huge shock.
“The bank decided to combine two managerial positions into one, and I decided the new role wasn’t for me, and opted for redundancy.
“It was such a sad time as myself and many of my colleagues were so shocked by the bank’s decision.
“At the same time, I was getting divorced, had to re-home my dog and move house.
“I sank into a deep depression, and was eventually diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder.
“After six months off work, I decided life is too short, and feeling much better, and stronger, I decided to realise my dream of owning a candle shop.
“I hadn’t really left this house for six months so this was a huge deal for me, but I am so passionate about scented candles, I pushed through the times that were frightening.”
Beth will be filling the store at 14 Hospital Street with well known brands, as well as displays by small suppliers.
“They will be some from mums, dads, even a nine year old, who make wax from home!” added Beth.
“I’m calling it ‘For Candles of Nantwich’ as it’s a play on the famous Two Ronnies sketch!”
“I’ve always loved Yankee candles and can spend hours in candle shops smelling all the fragrances.
“I’ve always said it would be my dream job to own my own little shop. My partner Nick has been amazingly supportive of the shop venture.
“I don’t live in Nantwich, but I picked the town as it is so lovely! I would love to move there soon.”
Good luck with the business. I’m a stones throw away and a huge fan of candles I’m sure you will get to know me.
Well done – very best wishes and I hope it goes really well for you!

Beth & her candle shop will be amazing!! I’m looking forward to following her progress on the shops Facebook page
Beth has always been an inspiration and I remember fondly the time we worked together; where her drive to be successful was clear for all to see. Even more impressive was her commitment to each customer who quickly became her friends. I know Beth will ensure her candle shop will be the delight of the town … Nantwich will be richer for her presence!
Well done to my sister!! After a really tough past 12 months she’s managed to fulfill a long standing dream! Can’t wait for the shop to open!
Beth is a true example of the indomitable spirit of a human – love her attitude to bits!
If you’re in the area, anytime – pop in and say hello (from the end of August…lol !!)
She has been a great source of support & encouragement for me & my wife since setting up our own wax melt business just 3 months ago – and were very proud to be one of her first suppliers!
