dishwasher fire funding cuts fire service, cylinder blast fear in Shavington

Two cars and a minibus have been burnt out after an arson attack in Crewe.

Firefighters were called to Hawthorn Grove where the vehicles were well alight.

Two of the crew wore breathing apparatus and three hose reels were used to put out the fire shortly before 3am today (September 25).

Police and a fire investigator from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and a criminal investigation is now underway.

Arson reduction manager Colin Heyes said: “This incident could have been so much worse if it had spread to the houses close-by where people were sleeping.

“The vehicles were completely burnt out and there were other cars in the car park that the fire would have spread to had we not been called.

“Deliberate fires can cost lives.”

Anyone who has information about who is responsible should call police on 101 quoting incident number 65 of 25 September, or alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
