A consultant at Leighton Hospital is swapping patients for pedals – to cycle to Paris in aid of the scanner appeal.
Dr Iftikhar, a Consultant Radiologist for Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, will be participating in the London to Paris Charity Cycle Challenge from July 22-26.
He hopes to raise thousands towards the Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity £1 million MRI Scanner Appeal.
The daring doc has already completed a charity skydive for Breast Cancer Care, raising £1,500 in memory of his mother who died of the disease when he was just two years old.
Dr Iftikhar, who lives in Crewe, said: “I enjoy helping others through charity work, and I’m definitely up for a challenge!
“I will be completing a 300-mile, four-day bike ride which I’m thrilled to be doing, in aid of the MRI Scanner Appeal.”
Successfully funding £1 million for the additional MRI scanner will provide a number of benefits to patients, staff and the Trust.
The new scanner could help Leighton save more lives than ever as well as improving the patient experience.
Laura Riddle, charity manager, said: “I’d like to thank Dr Iftikhar for choosing to support the MRI Scanner Appeal, we’re extremely grateful for the public’s support so far.
“Losing loved ones to cancer is an extremely traumatic experience to go through, and MRI scanning is used in the diagnosis of different cancers.
The appeal aims to raise enough cash to buy a second MRI Scanner to reduce failure rates, allow faster scan times and improve diagnostic accuracy.
