nantwich police speeding checks with camera at Reaseheath

Nantwich Police have been hitting the town’s busiest roads to clamp down on rogue drivers.

PCSOs have been out and about at various “hot spots” in response to concerns about traffic from residents.

In one crackdown, they used mobile speed camera equipment to monitor traffic through the 30mph stretch of the A51 at The Green in Reaseheath.

And Sgt Richard Tomlinson, of Nantwich Neighbourhood Policing Unit, feels the initiative is working.

“There was no evidence of excess speed gathered on that occasion,” he said.

“But we will continue to visit this and other hot spots in order to deter and educate speeding motorists and prosecute where appropriate.”

Officers have also been engaged in a second operation using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology.

As well as speeding motorists, it can catch those driving stolen vehicles or those without insurance.

ANPR used by Nantwich Police“We have an ANPR operation monitoring traffic speeds with the speed gun,” added Sgt Tomlinson.

“This is part of our ongoing activity to make the roads safer and denying criminals the use of Cheshire’s roads.”

Residents in Reaseheath called for stronger action on traffic after a number of accidents in 2014.

They say traffic regularly speeds in the 30mph zone close to a crossing used by many Reaseheath students.

In one incident, the crossing lights were destroyed by a lorry out of control.

Reaseheath resident Jonathan Bradley said: “It was fab to see the police out there.

“Sadly I was told there is one for all of Cheshire!

“But the impact was awesome. A great reminder it’s a 30mph limit at Reaseheath.”

  1. What about Crewe Road in Willaston and Wistaston? When the road is quiet, idiots go up and down there at well over 40mph. Over the last few years there have been quite a few crashes involving damage to garden walls.

  2. I hope the Police have a go at Queens Drive, some idiots get up to 60 mph in this 30mph residential road on the way to Wrenbury. Not a care for anyone.
