Crewe & Nantwich RUFC are celebrating after its U16 team were crowned Cheshire Shield champions.
The Vagrants side beat Wilmslow U16s 36-14 at the final in Bowdon yesterday (May 3).
Crewe & Nantwich withstood early pressure from a Wilmslow side who were quicker to get into their stride.
But valiant defending ensured no points were conceded.
And after withstanding early pressure, Crewe hit back and took control with a try by Kieran Anderson under the posts after a slick move through the backs.
Three further tries from Matt Walker ensured Crewe led comfortably 26-7 at half time.
Three of the tries were converted by Calum Meakin.
It was vital to score first in the second half to maintain the pressure and Crewe & Nantwich did just that.
Ross Holland powered over the line to score in the corner to kill off Wilmslow’s hopes of a comeback.
A late Try by George Spalding ensured Crewe & Nantwich ran out winners by 36-14.
The Cheshire Shield win bodes well for the 2015-16 season when the team moves onto Colts.
