Nantwich Museum manager Kate Dobson has turned the venue ‘green’ by slashing energy bills and eliminating waste.
That was the key message at the annual general meeting of Nantwich Museum Trust Ltd, on Pillory Street.
Trust chairman Nick Dyer said there has been a turnaround in the financial situation of the museum from the deficit of recent years to one of credit in the year 2014/15.
And Kate was praised by members for her efforts in slashing costs and turning it into an eco-friendly facility as part of the “Green Museum” project.
Grants from Cheshire East Council and Nantwich Town Council are also key to the museum’s financial survival, the meeting was told.
And there were contributions from parish councils of Acton, Bunbury, Willaston and Wistaston reflecting the role of the museum in wider community.
The Skoolsfest exhibition, which opens at the museum this Saturday June 20, involves all 16 local schools of the Nantwich Education Partnership.
The re-development of the museum shop, reclamation of Gift Aid as the museum is a registered charity and a variety of fund raising events also helped.
A recent Plant and Book Sale (pictured, below) raised £250 for museum funds.
Membership of the museum trust, which is to be re-named ‘Friends’, is currently 143.
Malcolm Reid, a long time supporter of the museum and the man behind the new Nantwich post card available in the museum shop, was elected to the board of management.
Each year the board nominates for the Dutton Medal – endowed by medal-maker Ron Dutton in memory of his parents Alderman and Mrs Dutton.
This year two Dutton Medals were awarded to local unsung heroes.
Ray Morris, who for many years has been the visit organiser at St Mary’s Church, and Jeff Stubbs the Chairman of Nantwich Civic Society and Nantwich Partnership.
The medals will be presented at a dinner in October.
Mr Stubbs also outlined a number of projects stemming from the work of Nantwich Partnership including the restoration of various footways, the restoration of Nantwich Aqueduct and improvements to the Old Biot salt spring.
