Hundreds of people gathered at Wistaston Church Lane Primary School, for the Wistaston Annual Village Fete, writes Kirsty Rollings.

The Rose Queen Procession began at Wistaston Memorial Hall, touring the streets of Wistaston before ending at the school field for the ending of the Fete.

Former Rose Queen Lucy Rowland and newly appointed Rachel Astbury then took to the stage where hundreds gathered to watch for the official appointment and various performances on the field.

Rachel, 13, said: “I’ve always lived in Wistaston and being a Rose Queen is something that has always been in my family.

“It’s always been something that I have aimed for, so it’s really nice.”

One of the duties of the Rose Queen is to choose a charity to support throughout their year as Rose Queen, with the responsibility of organising events to raise money for the given charity.

Rachel has chosen MacMillan as her charity to support for the following year.

Scottish Dancers, Church Lane Primary School Choir and Hartford Gymnastics are among some of the many performers that participated in the busy event.

Newly appointed Mayor of Crewe Town Council, Cllr Dennis Straine-Francis and his wife attended the event, enjoying the tea and cakes on offer in the school hall.

Chairman of Wistaston Community Council Richard Chaplow said: “It’s been fantastic this year, more people than ever have attended.

“We have a bigger field this year which has allowed more people to come.”
