These are the images of the ‘Supermoon’ and lunar eclipse over Nantwich.
Photographer Jonathan White snapped these amazing pictures from his Wistaston house in the early hours of this morning.
The ‘Supermoon’ pic was taken at 1am and the total lunar eclipse at 3.30am.
Thousands around the region stayed up late to see the spectacle in clear skies.
The rare celestial event happens when a lunar eclipse coincides with a so-called “supermoon”.
A supermoon occurs when the Moon is in the closest part of its orbit to Earth, meaning it appears larger in the sky.
The eclipse – which made the Moon appear red – has been visible in North America, South America, West Africa and Western Europe.
It was last observed in 1982 and will not be back before 2033.
Jonathan said: “The Supermoon brightened the sky, but the moon turned a dull red during the total lunar eclipse and was difficult to make out fully without binoculars or a camera with zoom.”
