plays - Nantwich Players Theatre - The Witches

Regular theatre goers will be delighted with the latest production being held at The Players Theatre in Nantwich, writes Claire Faulkner.

‘Neighbourhood Watch’, written by Alan Ayckbourn and directed by Garth Jones, tells the wonderfully funny and sometimes dark story of life on the Bluebell Hill Development.

Following an innocent mistake, a middle-aged brother and sister grow concerned with the rise of petty crime in the area, and set up a neighbourhood watch group.

Unfortunately, the group soon spirals out of control and becomes a controlling force in the lives of the residents of Bluebell Hill.

The cast skilfully captures all of the different characters involved, and work well together.

Sharon Sims-King plays a great ‘Hilda’, the well-meaning Christian neighbour, who seems to be at the centre of everything that takes place.

Simon Porter is wonderful and delightfully funny as ‘Martin’, a practising pacifist and chairman of the group.

The volunteer vigilantes are led by ‘Rod’, a security guard, played by Tony Hoy, who seems to believe that violence will solve most of the groups problems.

In the quest for law and order and a decent place to live, chaos soon enters with some hilarious and disastrous results.

‘Neighbourhood Watch’ is running at The Players Theatre on Love Lane, Nantwich, until October 31.
