Former Crewe & Nantwich gymnast Beth Tweddle is in hospital after seriously injuring her back while taking part in The Jump TV show.
The Olympic bronze medal-winner, from Bunbury, is said to be “stable” in hospital after suffering the injury on the Channel 4 reality show.
The 30-year-old, who retired from gymnastics in 2013, hit a barrier on landing and has quit the show.
Her parents Ann and Jerry issued a statement earlier on social media saying she was due to “undergo routine back surgery”.
“Yesterday, Beth had a fall on the slopes whilst in training for The Jump”, they said.
“Beth and the family would like to thank everyone for their good wishes. We will keep you updated on her progress.”
Hundreds of well wishers, including her former Crewe & Nantwich Gymnastics Club as well as Team GB, have posted “get well” messages on social media.
Three years, Tweddle won the “Dancing on Ice” celebrity reality show on ITV, with dance partner Dan Whiston.
She is not the first contestant to be injured and quit The Jump show.
Fellow Olympian Rebecca Adlington has also withdrawn because of injury.
Adlington, 26, who won two swimming golds for Britain at the 2008 Olympics, suffered a shoulder injury and said she was “so sad to be leaving on injury”.
Holby City actress Tina Hobley, 44, also pulled out of the show after dislocating her elbow and suffering two fractures to her arm.
