Nantwich staged a celebration of the Queen’s 90th birthday with a packed concert at St Mary’s Church.
The event was attended by Lord Lieutenant for Cheshire David Briggs and Mayor of Nantwich Cllr Andrew Martin and his wife Linda.
Singers from Nantwich Young Voices, Brine Leas school and the Funkychoir.com entertained a full church with songs through the decades.
Also during the day was a tea party for the town’s 90-year-olds, the lighting of the town’s jubilee beacon in the square, and a fireworks display at the end.
The afternoon tea party for pensioners was held for those born in 1926, or already aged 90 or over.
There was piano and singing entertainment as well as light refreshments and birthday cakes.
It was organised by Liz Southall, from Redshift Radio, Shaun Cafferty from Martin & Co, Nantwich Town Council, and the church.
Shaun said: “We did invite the country’s most well-known 90-year-old, but unfortunately Her Majesty was already committed to another party on The Mall in London!”
Cheshire’s Lord Lieutenant attended in honour of the Queen, and made a speech before the concert in St Mary’s Church.
Sponsors and the help of volunteers allowed the organisers to stage the events free of charge.
The firework display at the end was staged by Crewe-based Blitz Fireworks.
