A Nantwich business park has welcomed a new arrival in the shape of Pilates classes for expectant mums.

Physiotherapists at ctchealthcare on Beam Heath Way have developed an ante-natal Pilates programme to help pregnant women strengthen their core and reduce pain.

Classes are held on Monday evenings in the clinic where an exercise studio is now open to the public as a community health and wellbeing hub.

Jane Hardwick, a physiotherapist for more than 30 years, is welcoming expectant mums at all stages of their pregnancy.

She said: “Pilates is an invigorating form of exercise for your mind and body that improves strength, flexibility and overall mobility.

“In pregnancy, the benefits are many but it is important to work with someone who is experienced and trained in teaching pregnant women.

“Ladies told us they couldn’t find a class locally so we have launched our own with excellent feed-back.”

Classes focus on strengthening tummy muscles to maintain balance and reduce back pain caused by the weight of carrying a growing baby.

Exercises also prepare mums for the birth ahead with breathing techniques and pelvic floor exercises.

Crewe mum Sarah Hudson, expecting her second child next week, said: “I was experiencing so much pelvic pain, I had to consider going on crutches.

“Attending the classes at ctchealthcare has really helped and meant I can carry on walking unaided.”

The company, which specialises in injury prevention and health management, works with private patients and large corporate clients.

Founded more than 20 years ago, it has grown from a small clinic to large organisation delivering physiotherapy and wellbeing services on a national scale.

Other classes staged in the studio include boxercise, dance therapy and Zumba.
