South Cheshire firm Mornflake has thrown its weight behind one of the country’s biggest programmes of triathlon events.
The breakfast foods giant is backing UK Triathlon in its bid to get people of all abilities running, cycling and swimming to medal glory.
Organised by UK Triathlon, based in Wybunbury, the events kicked off in Birmingham yesterday and end on the South coast in Seaford, Sussex in September.
This year’s Cheshire UK Triathlon takes place on May 21 when more than 1,000 competitors will descend on Nantwich.
Entrants will swim distances of 500m at Nantwich Pool, followed by a 20km cycle ride and a 5km run ending at Barony Park where there will be family attractions.
New this year is the Cheshire Triathlon Pink Wave which will raise money for Cancer Research UK and offer women a chance to compete over shorter distances as an individual or team.
Organisers will donate £10 from every entry to the charity.
Nantwich will also host the first Cheshire UK Kids Fun Duathlon which includes runs and cycle rides of varying distances on May 20 for children aged five to 16.
As major sponsor, Mornflake will be at each event keeping competitors fuelled with oat-based products which offer slow-release energy and Go! Protein Porridge pots which aid muscle-repair after training.
Company spokesman Richard Jones said: “We play a part in many high-profile shows and festivals but sporting events are a great opportunity to shout about the benefits of oats as an energy-boosting superfood.
“We are proud to sponsor UK Triathlon which has its roots in South Cheshire and has grown into a country-wide event encouraging all abilities to get fit.
“We are delighted to see the new events for children and charity fundraisers and are looking forward to meeting competitors up and down the country.”
UK Triathlon is celebrating 25 years of staging sporting challenges.
Spokeswoman Zoe Steenson said: “It’s great to have a big name like Mornflake behind our events.
“We pride ourselves on building long-lasting relationships with our partners and Mornflake is a great fit with our ethos of encouraging all abilities to take on a fitness challenge and feel the thrill of reaching the finish line.”
