A new Rotary group has celebrated receiving its official Charter status after a year of fundraising and volunteering in South Cheshire.
Rotary Club of Bentley Cheshire members turned out in force to a champagne reception and presentation ceremony staged at the car firm’s showroom in Crewe.
Bentley Board Members Marlies Rogait and Michael Straughan congratulated the club on its achievements which include raising more than £8,000 for charity with a Las Vegas-themed ball held at Crewe Hall.
Club secretary Sarah Newcombe said: “We were originally a satellite attached to the Crewe and Nantwich Weaver Club.
“But our new Charter status makes us a stand-alone group, recognised in our own right by the Rotary movement across the UK and internationally.
“What makes us more proud, is that we are believed to be the first corporately-formed group in the world.
“And it was fantastic to welcome Rotary leaders and local dignitaries to our Charter event.”
Also in attendance were President of Rotary International Great Britain and Ireland, Eve Conway, District Governor Rotary District 1180, Molly Youd, and Rotary GO Champion & Formation of New Clubs Chairman, Tony Cotton.
Sarah, a project co-ordinator at Bentley, added: “While originally founded by Bentley colleagues, we welcome people from all professions.”
The group meets at Firenze restaurant in Nantwich on Thursdays at 6.30pm and alternate Thursdays at the factory at 5.30pm.
Members are planning a Family Fun Day & BBQ for South Cheshire families on June 24 at Wishing Well on West Street, Crewe.
