These dramatic pictures show how a hot air balloon packed with passengers was forced to land just yards from the Nantwich railway line, narrowly missing electricity pylons.
Eye-witnesses gathered to watch the balloon’s dicey descent as it landed in a field next to the Nantwich to Crewe line close to Cheerbrook Farm, off Newcastle Road.
Just moments earlier, onlookers described how it was seen dropping low over gardens at nearby houses in Stapeley.
Thankfully, it seems, no one was injured in the incident, and the balloon managed to take off again about an hour later.
One witness said: “It was very close to the railway line and pylons!
“They managed to take off again before a train came, and just missed the pylons.
“Quite a few people had gathered to watch, and we cheered as they re-launched.
“I’m just glad no one was hurt!”
We have contacted Red Letter Days, operators of the balloon experience, and are awaiting a comment about the incident.
