Scout leaders in Nantwich are appealing for help to renovate the town’s crumbling Scout hut.
The base, off Davenport Avenue, is the only one for Scout Troop/Explorers in Nantwich, and is now 50 years old.
Every week, it caters for 32 Scouts, 30 Cubs, 16 Beavers and 27 Explorers.
And there is a growing waiting list as more youngsters move in to the area keen to sign up.
Steve ‘Sonic’ Bullock, Group Scout Leader 38th Nantwich, is now calling on the public to pitch in and offer community help to give the hut a new lease of life.
“The hut, I believe, is over 50-years-old and was a second hand donation back in the day, starting as the 07th Nantwich then merged and became the 38th, attached to St Mary’s Church,” he said.
“Plans are to start the 07th Scouts again to try and reduce the ever-increasing numbers on waiting list.
“But we simply don’t have the room to grow.
“Talk now is to get a working party together to gain grants, get architects, surveyors, builders, quotes, planning permission, funding to either extend or completely re-build our hut.
“Nantwich is a growing community and we have now completely outgrown the hut.”
Leaders and parents are also working together to bid for community grant funding from local and town authorities.
Steve added: “We are hoping for community help – a bit like SOS involving local tradesmen, architects and surveyors!”
