Organisers of Nantwich Words & Music Festival have unveiled a top line-up for the town’s tenth annual event, including a debut for poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy.
Other headline acts range from alternative rock band THERAPY? (pictured) to British rock quartet Tom Robinson and Band and iconic English poet Roger McGough.
The festival runs from October 9-15, with acts performing across a number of venues in the heart of Nantwich.
Carol Ann Duffy will make her debut appearance, reading from her collection in Nantwich Players Theatre on Love Lane.
Nantwich’s St Mary’s Church will welcome multi-award winning Mercury nominated folk superstar Seth Lakeman to perform an intimate show.
Lakeman has supported tours with Billy Bragg and The Levellers with his albums consistently charting.
Nantwich resident, international singer songwriter, musician and festival director, Thea Gilmore joins the headline acts for the tenth consecutive year.
Up and coming indie-rock band, Little Comets, will open the festival, while Beth Rowley, regular vocalist of choice for Jools Holland and his Rhythm ’n’ Blues Orchestra, will close the festival with her mellow tones at The Crown Hotel Ballroom.
Back by popular demand, Mark Radcliffe’s Galleon Blast returns to close the festival on its final night.
Words & Music Festival draws on bringing original live music and words to Nantwich.
Over the past decade, the festival has grown from a two to seven day festival.
It now attracts thousands of people to attend a mix of ticketed and free events, with performances from the likes of Dr John Cooper Clarke, Echo and the Bunneymen’s Ian Mchulloch, The Lightning seeds, Tim Burgess and Badly Drawn Boy.
Building on its 10-year history, the festival began with a collaboration of three musicians’ mission to bring music to the town.
It is organised by producer, musician and singer/songwriter Nigel Stonier alongside Thea Gilmore, musician Clare “fluff” Smith and a team of Nantwich volunteers.
Nigel Stonier said: “We always said we were in it for the long haul!
“We’re glad the festival has now started to attract visitors from all over the world.
“What started as a two-day event has become a week-long festival which major acts want to play.
“We also love that we’ve become diverse enough to feature an Irish alt-rock band and the poet laureate in the same line-up!”
Tickets are now on sale via our website at www.wordsandmusicfestival.com or in person via The Grapevine, The Crown Hotel and Ballroom and Bloom in Nantwich.
