Young members of the 38th South West Cheshire Scouts in Nantwich are celebrating success at the Cheshire Hike.
The group, based at the Davenport Avenue hut off Barony Road, saw eight members complete the hike, which is now in its 52nd year.
The two-day expedition sees scouts across Cheshire cover distances of between 30-60km, carrying all their kit and navigating, camping and cooking for themselves.
And for the first time ever, 38th group in Nantwich brought home a County Award!
Henry Montgomery and Oscar Pedley (pictured), both aged 11, took 1st place in the Junior category for both the South West Cheshire District and the overall county.
They also won the Brian Kershaw Trophy, awarded to the team with the highest points in their first ever Cheshire Hike, regardless of age category.
Meanwhile, senior competitors Ed and Adam came fifth in the district and 30th overall out of 54.
At intermediate level, Harriet Morgan and Sam Knight took sixth place for the district and 60th overall, while Jennifer Appleby and Charlotte Storey (a scout from Warrington) came ninth in the district and 74th overall.
And juniors Euan Merrin and Rebecca Hamlyn (a scout from the 7th) came third in the district and 14th overall.
Young 38th group leaders Harriet Faulkner and Lucy Everall (pictured with them) helped the scouts throughout the weekend.
Lucy has mow moved across to Nantwich scout group (the 7th) while Harriet is focusing concentrating on her role within the scouting district.
Harriet and Lucy said: “The Cheshire Hike is a massive achievement for anyone who takes part.
“All of the teams did brilliantly, completing their Expedition Challenge, the hardest challenge badge to earn towards achieving the Chief Scout Gold Award.”
Steve Bullock, Group Scout leader of the 38th, said: “These scores show the time and dedication our teams have shown to the practises and preparations for the hike.
“Also, thank you to all the leaders and the parents for their support.”
This year 470 young people completed the Cheshire Hike, which had three starting points at the scout headquarters of Sandiway and Cuddington, Tarporley and Tarvin.
A spokesman for Cheshire Scouts said: “With base camps at Arley Hall, Davenham and Comberbach, we’re indebted to the farmers who allow us the use of their fields to camp on.
“The juniors found their campsite at Arley Hall was next to the film set for Sky TV’s new street racing drama, Curfew, starring Sean Bean.
“However, we’re not sure they appreciated being woken up at 4am by an explosive live action sequence!”
The trophies for the overall winners were presented by the regional commissioner for the North West, Andrew Corrie.
