YMCA Crewe is to stage its Sleep Easy night in Memorial Square as part of a national fundraising week.
The organisation is calling on local residents to come together and sleep rough for one night in March to support local, homeless young people.
YMCA Crewe is one of several across the country joining forces to raise awareness of youth homelessness during national YMCA Sleep Easy Week, March 6-13.
Since launching in 2010, YMCA Sleep Easy week has seen more than 7,000 people sleep rough to raise more than £1.5 million for local YMCA services that help young people rebuild their lives.
The week will see donors sleep out for one night to raise awareness of the hundreds of young people who sleep rough every year and raise funds to help YMCA Crewe continue to support residents and young people in their services.
This year’s local event will take place at Memorial Square in Crewe Town Centre from 7pm on Friday March 13 to 7am on Saturday March 14.
Registration costs £10 and participants will be supported to raise as much sponsorship money as they can.
This will be the first Sleep Easy night that Crewe has organised, and is aiming to raise up to £15,000.
Funds raised will help the Crewe centre continue to work with more than 300 local people each year.
It helps provide temporary accommodation, support services, and its unique engagement model ‘GLOAcademy’, helping YMCA residents work towards a thriving future.
Richard Holmes, Development Manager at YMCA Crewe, said: “My experience over the 24 years I’ve been at the YMCA tells me that most people want to play a part in tackling homelessness.
“The best thing we can do is to provide not just emergency help (which is always needed) but a Pathway for each one to settled accommodation, healthier living, and access to employment and training skills.
“We will ensure that your contribution makes that pathway a reality.”
