Showtime - Crewe Lyceum Theatre, to stage a wedding fayre, and summer events

It’s been a long wait. More than 500 days.

But the doors of Crewe Lyceum have finally reopened, and what a show to restart the season with.

On Saturday night, I was part of the audience who were treated to The Spirit of Elvis, starring Gordon Hendricks.

Waiting to go in it was evident that Hendricks has a very loyal following.

Fans had travelled from all over the country to be there that night and they chatted to me about how much they were looking forward to the show after a year in lockdown.

When the music started and the curtains rose, Hendricks walked on stage to a roar of applause from the audience.

The atmosphere felt electric and Hendricks didn’t disappoint.

Supported by a group of talented musicians and backing singers, Hendricks gave a clear and strong performance which sounded amazing throughout the show.

I enjoyed the section of gospel songs, and thought How Great Thou Art was performed beautifully.

Hendricks also gave strong renditions of Suspicious Minds, In The Ghetto and My Way, which the audience adored.

Hendricks received a well deserved standing ovation from a packed theatre, and to the fans delight performed I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You as an encore.

The Spirit of Elvis is a well constructed and entertaining show. Hendricks sounded superb.

I can understand why people watch the show multiple times. I would happily watch it again.

Thankyou to Debbie and all of the fans who took the time to talk to me, and thankyou to all the staff of The Lyceum.

It was good to be back.
