Nantwich Town earned a credible goalless draw away at promotion contenders Marine.
The Dabbers returned to action after a two-week weather lay-off with a tough road trip to Merseyside in the Evo-Stik Premier League.
The Valentine’s Day contest failed to provide a spark for the 286 supporters who looked on.
Marine had the better of the chances, despite having to replace injured keeper Ryan McMahon with outfield player Thomas Moore.
But it was the Dabbers who finished the stronger side, with Jordan Connerton, Michael Lennon and Dave MacPherson all going close.
Marine thought they’d snatched a late winner when Darren Byers bundled the loose ball home inside the box, but he was adjudged to have fouled Nantwich keeper Jon Brain.
Brain had earlier produced the save of the game, tipping Liam Dawson’s rasping shot wide as it arrowed towards the top corner.
Jimmy Quinn will be happy with a point against fifth-placed Marine, which cements Nantwich’s mid-table position.
They remain in 11th spot, with 39 points from 29 games.
The Dabbers return to home league action this Saturday against Worksop Town, kick off 3pm.
Jimmy Quinn has also secured a month-long loan with young Burnley defender David Lynch.
Meanwhile, the Weaver Stadiun hosted homeless neighbours Northwich Victoria tonight (February 14) as they won 4-1 against Hampton and Richmond in the third round of the FA Trophy.
