Nantwich’s devastated farming community has paid tribute to Andrew Huntbach, who died after falling into a slurry pit.
Mr Huntbach was pulled clear of the pit by colleagues at Hollin Green Farm on Hollingreen Lane, between Aston and Audlem.
Fire crews and paramedics fought to resuscitate him at the scene and he was taken to hospital at around 5.45pm on Wednesday (March 25). He was later pronounced dead.
Today, members of the close-knit farming community came together in tribute to the popular 37-year-old, who was married with children.
Rob Ford, the local Nantwich NFU branch chairman who knew Mr Huntbach, said: “This is just devastating for the whole community.
“We all work in similar situations, often alone because of the nature of the industry, and what happened could have happened to any one of us. It’s tragic.”
Rob Newbery, regional director of NFU West Midlands, said: “The NFU and the wider farming community are shocked and saddened to hear of this tragic farm death.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends at this time.
“The incident will be in the hands of the Health and Safety Executive, but this type of incident always has a profound impact on any community. We send our thoughts.”
Mr Huntbach (pictured), a former Brine Leas School student, and his family are well-known in the area, having farmed for many years.
It’s understood his family recently bought a second dairy farm near Audlem, and it was here where the tragic accident took place.
A spokeswoman for the Health and Safety Executive confirmed that they are aware of the accident and are carrying out an investigation into what happened.
