10 people rescued in major Shropshire Union Canal incident

Ten people had to be rescued during a major incident when a sinkhole opened up on the Shropshire Union Canal near Whitchurch over night.

Emergency services are the on scene on the Llangollen branch of the canal which runs down from Wrenbury into Whitchurch and out towards Wales.

Nantwich Police say they are unaware of any tickets being issued for heavy goods vehicles breaching the weight limit on Baddington Bridge.

The bridge on the A530 Whitchurch Road just outside Nantwich has had a 7.5 tonne weight limit on it since late September.

A Nantwich swimmer has raised £380 for the Wishing Well charity after completing a challenge to swim the equivalent length of the English Channel.

Ethan Carroll, 23, who is on the autistic spectrum, took on the marathon challenge during his weekly sessions at Crewe Lifestyle Centre with Seahorse Swimming Club.
