Plans for 112 homes on Doddington estate near Nantwich rejected by councillors

An attempt to build 112 homes to fund the renovation of the Doddington country estate near Nantwich has been rejected following fierce opposition from neighbours.

Lady Rona Delves Broughton, who owns the Doddington Estate, wanted to build 112 homes across 12 smaller plots of land to fill a £9.6 million funding gap for the renovation of her estate – which has planning permission to become a hotel, and is on Historic England’s ‘at risk’ register in parts.

Olympic trampolinist Bryony Page had Wybunbury youngsters leaping for joy when she brought her silver medal in for a visit.

Page, who landed the medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016, spoke to the pupils at Wybunbury Delves primary.

Pupils and staff at Wybunbury Delves have celebrated the opening of ‘Fort Lewis’ – play equipment built in memory of tragic Lewis Crossley who died of leukaemia.

And the opening on June 4 took place on what would have been Lewis’ 8th birthday.

Firm’s car rally in memory of tragic Wybunbury Delves pupil Lewis Crossley

Staff at Construction Linx are taking on the car rally event Benidorm Or Bust to raise funds in memory of brave young leukaemia victim Lewis Crossley.

Team Lewis Trust was set up after seven-year-old Lewis, a pupil at Wybunbury Delves Primary, died in November.

Pebble artists in Nantwich and Crewe have been painting bees on rocks to pay tribute on the first anniversary of the Manchester Arena terror attack.

The worker bee is one of the best-known symbols of Manchester and came to symbolise Manchester’s resilience after the atrocity which killed 22 people a year ago.

Big-hearted pupils at Wybunbury Delves are running a fund-raising project in memory of their friend Lewis Crossley, who died of leukaemia last year.

Youngsters in Year 3 came up with the idea to honour Lewis, who bravely battled the disease before his tragic death.

In a contest involving several schools, Year 5 Wybunbury youngsters answered a staggering 53,149 questions correctly.

Latest league tables show performance of primary schools in Nantwich

The Government’s latest league tables for Nantwich primary schools have been published, rating schools on the improvement shown by pupils in reading, writing and maths.

The tables show the percentage of pupils achieving the expected standard by the end of Key Stage 2 (year 6), compared to where pupils were at the end of Key Stage 1 (year 2).
