Rail200 celebration at Nantwich’s “church with the train”

Two hundred years of railways in Great Britain was celebrated at Nantwich Methodist Church in Hospital Street.

Volunteers run a steam train every Saturday over the narrow-gauge tracks beside the church giving rides to youngsters and operate the model railway belonging to the children’s club “Drop ‘n Shop”.

Cheshire East needs to seek government advice on how quickly it can switch to a cabinet system because of an urgent need to speed up decision-making, the Conservatives said.

Knutsford councillor Tony Dean (Con) even asked if it was possible to decide within 24 hours if there were any emergency powers which could be introduced to speed up decision-making, describing the pace of change currently as “snail-like”.

Cheshire East councillors are calling on the government to reduce its housing target saying the borough needs “plan-led development, not developer-led planning”.

The target has soared by more than 150% from 997 dwellings per annum to 2,471, following changes brought in by the Labour government.
