Twenty-three care staff have quit companies contracted with Cheshire East Council because they had not been vaccinated against Covid.
And the council is gearing up for the April “double jab” deadline which could hit all its front-line care and health workers.

Cheshire East is deciding on a case by case basis if children in the council’s care should be given the Covid vaccine if birth parents do not consent.
Annemarie Parker, head of service for cared for children and care leavers, told a corporate parenting committee that the local authority sought consent from the parents of cared for children aged 12 to 15.

More than 130 staff working in Cheshire East care homes have not had both Covid jabs, with half of these exempt on medical grounds.
The matter was raised at an adults and health committee where Cllr Arthur Moran (Nantwich North & West, Ind) raised concerns the November deadline for all staff to be double jabbed could have a negative impact on staff numbers.

Cheshire East Council’s children’s services department has overspent its budget for the fourth year in a row and the problem has been exacerbated by safeguarding issues because of Covid.

Cheshire East councillors have clashed over plans to charge residents aged 85 and over £5 per week for ‘assistive technology’ care.
The plans, which were approved for public consultation on Tuesday April 6, would mean over 85s pay the same “standard charge” as other assistive technology users.

A replacement for the fire-destroyed Beechmere Care Facility in Crewe has been approved by Cheshire East councillors.
Members granted planning permission for the new building, which will sit on the same site with the same 132 bedrooms, and a number of fire safety improvements compared to its predecessor.

More than 500 children in Cheshire East are now being cared for by the council, latest figures show.
A Freedom of Information request to the authority reveals 535 youngsters are designated “looked after children” by CEC, with 269 aged 12 or over.
