Record numbers packed into the Civic Hall in Nantwich to take part in the Mayor’s Big Quiz.
The event, organised by Nantwich Town Council, saw teams come together to raise more than £1,000 for the Mayor’s local charities, including Nantwich Food Bank, Nantwich In Bloom, Nantwich Museum and Nantwich Players.
Nantwich Foodbank has been given a helping hand after being hit by the 5p carrier bag charge.
The new charge has left the foodbank, which has helped hundreds of families, with a dwindling supply of second-hand bags it uses for handing out parcels.
Trussell Trust Foodbanks gave out three-day food packages 1,084,604 times in 2014-15.
But this staggering statistic is not one to be celebrated. Volunteers at Nantwich Foodbank would rather be out of a job.

Nantwich Foodbank has fed more than 620 people in just six months – including nearly 300 children. The startling figures were revealed by organisers of the foodbank, run by the Trussell Trust.
Organisers of Nantwich Food and Drink Festival have paid tribute to everyone involved in making it another massive success. Thousands of people poured into the town over the three-day festival, which boasted 140 outside traders and 280 events.

Staff from housing provider Wulvern have donated food in a “jeans for beans” day to support the launch of Nantwich Foodbank. Wulvern is working with the Trussell Trust and local churches to run the Foodbank at Market Street Church in Nantwich.
