The Labour/Independent-run Cheshire East Council has been asked to re-think the Middlewich Eastern Bypass scheme in the light of significant delays, soaring costs and failure to submit a sufficiently robust business case.
The family of a man who died following a fatal collision near Middlewich have paid tribute to him.
The accident happened on the A54 Middlewich Road, close to the junction with Birch Lane, shortly after 4.45am on Thursday January 18.
Police are urging anyone who saw an accident which killed a 37-year-old driver in Middlewich today to come forward.

Pepperberry House in Middlewich, run by Compass, also provides ancillary education facilities on site, both for children living at the home and others in their care who reside elsewhere.
Cheshire East Council has won government backing for two new schools for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
The successful bid means the Department for Education will build two new special schools, in Middlewich and Congleton.

A 51-year-old man has been arrested following a report of a child abduction in Middlewich, police said today.

Plans to introduce parking charges in towns where it is currently free, have been controversially scrapped by Cheshire East Council.
If approved, charges would have been introduced in Middlewich, Alsager, Holmes Chapel, Sandbach and other towns in line with Nantwich, Crewe, and Macclesfield.

Planning officers are recommending Cheshire East councillors give the go-ahead for a gypsy and traveller transit site.
Cheshire East Council has applied for permission to site 10 gypsy and traveller transit pitches and an amenity block on land at the former Cledford Hall Farm on Cledford Lane, Middlewich.

A long-awaited planning application to construct traveller pitches at Cledford Hall has been submitted.
The bid, which would provide a temporary accommodation “transit site” for 10 pitches and an amenity block, has been brought forward by Cheshire East Council.
