The Snow Hill car park in Nantwich could be expanded to help the town cope with increased parking demands, Cheshire East Council says.
The plan emerged after Nantwich Civic Society raised concerns over the loss of the unofficial 200-space parking site off St Anne’s Lane.
The loss of the old gasworks parking site in Nantwich will add to a “rising tide” of traffic problems, say concerned Civic Society members.
Development of the St Anne’s Lane site (pictured) will see the town lose 200 ‘free’ parking spaces each day.
The chairman of the Nantwich Partnership has hailed the “teamwork” which has secured a £1 million investment in the town centre.

Nantwich Civic Society entertained 31 members of Lancaster Civic Society with a trip around the town. They were met at Nantwich Civic Centre by Civic Society members and Town Mayor, Christine Farrall before enjoying a tour of the town.
Members of Nantwich in Bloom are celebrating after scooping Gold Medal at the “North West in Bloom” awards. Nantwich came out on top in the “Best Town” category at the presentation in Southport.
Nantwich Civic Society members were joined by volunteers for the town’s third annual Spring Clean. People from groups like Nantwich in Bloom, Nantwich Litter Group, Reaseheath College Horticultural Students and Barclays Bank Knutsford staff, took part.
A new Nantwich Partnership has been formed to attract funds to boost town centre areas showing “wear and tear”. The Partnership has been formed by Nantwich Town Council, Nantwich Civic Society, Cheshire East Council and business and tourism groups.
The seventh sign has arrived along Nantwich’s Riverside – courtesy of Nantwich Civic Society and other local volunteers. The final signpost of seven was unveiled at the entrance to Mill Island on Waterlode yesterday to complete a town council funded project.
