Edwardian orphanage in South Cheshire to be converted to retirement flats

An Edwardian former orphanage described as a jewel in Crewe’s crown is set to be converted into retirement flats after standing empty for 12 years.

Cheshire East Council’s southern planning committee has given the go-ahead for Grade II-listed Webb House in Victoria Avenue, to be transformed into 54 extra care apartments with a swimming pool and gym – subject to final design tweaks being approved by planning officers.

Marbury farm to become wedding venue after Cheshire East Council go ahead

A South Cheshire farm is set to become home to a wedding venue after councillors granted planning permission, despite objections.

The Charlesworth family, which has been farming at the Grange Farm in Marbury near Wrenbury for 35 years, has been given the go-ahead to use its site as a wedding venue to provide additional income.

Plans for 112 homes on Doddington estate near Nantwich rejected by councillors

An attempt to build 112 homes to fund the renovation of the Doddington country estate near Nantwich has been rejected following fierce opposition from neighbours.

Lady Rona Delves Broughton, who owns the Doddington Estate, wanted to build 112 homes across 12 smaller plots of land to fill a £9.6 million funding gap for the renovation of her estate – which has planning permission to become a hotel, and is on Historic England’s ‘at risk’ register in parts.

Council approves plan to turn Acton’s Star Inn pub into housing

Planners have passed proposals to turn a listed Nantwich pub into houses, despite objections from councillors and residents.

The Star Inn, on Chester Road in Acton, will be converted into three residential units after Cheshire East Council approved the scheme.

Councillors are being advised to throw out plans for 170 homes on land in Willaston, Nantwich.

The bid by Richborough Estates on land north of Moorfields, is due to be considered by Cheshire East Council’s Strategic Planning Board tomorrow (November 18)

Planners have recommended a controversial bid to turn former Hack Green RAF camp near Nantwich into a large-scale site for travelling families, is rejected.
