A retired school nurse from Nantwich is proving just the tonic for children needing a little extra help with their reading.
Mother-of-three Patricia Pickles is a volunteer with Schoolreaders, a charity that recruits people to visit a local primary school each week to listen to children read to improve their reading and comprehension skills.
Thirty children from Nantwich Primary Academy spent two days and a night at the Wingate Centre in Wrenbury, thanks to a Rotary club donation.
The youngsters aged between six and eight enjoyed the experience after receiving support of the Rotary Club of Nantwich.
Pupils at Nantwich Primary Academy brought Christmas cheer to the shoppers of Nantwich when they entertained them with Christmas carol singing.
The youngsters were joined by Crewe and Nantwich MP Edward Timpson, who joined in with all of the Christmas carols and dance actions for the songs.
