Police defend handling of M6 crash which left drivers stranded for 12 hours
Police chiefs defended their handling of the impact of the M6 crash this week which left thousands of drivers stranded for up to 12 hours on the motorway in soaring temperatures.
The incident, which resulted in the death of an HGV driver, happened northbound between junctions 17 and 18 when a lorry collided with a railway bridge.
South Cheshire Model Engineering Society back on track after pandemic
Members of the South Cheshire Model Engineering Society are back on track after staging their first event since the outbreak of Covid pandemic.
They held a “Track Open Day” on Sunday (August 22) which allowed the first visitors to their site Willaston in 18 months.

There is a footpath between Shrewbridge Road and the railway station on Wellington Road.
It runs close to the railway, along Brookfield Park.
HS2 Ltd announces “formal” start of construction of railway
HS2 Ltd has today announced the formal start of construction on the project which will eventually connect South Cheshire to London in under an hour.
It follows the announcement in April when Department for Transport gave approval for HS2 Ltd to issue Notice to Proceed to the four Main Works Civils Contractors working on the project.

Beeston Castle and Tarporley railway station could be reopened as early as December 2022, it emerged today.
It is one of 50 proposals submitted from around the UK to the Government’s “Restoring Your Railway Fund”.

A rapidly spreading blaze on a railway embankment in Crewe has caused delays to local services.
Firefighters have been battling the blaze off Dunwoody Way in Crewe since it started at around 1.20pm today (June 29).

Michael Portillo’s visit to Nantwich as part of the popular Great British Railway Journeys BBC TV series will be screened this week.
The production team filming the current series, which is set in the Edwardian period, was persuaded to take a detour to Nantwich by museum volunteer Bill Pearson.
