Highways bosses at Cheshire East Council have finally admitted there are “issues” with the surface dressing along the A500 Shavington Bypass.
It follows hundreds of complaints from motorists about loose gravel smashing windscreens and denting vehicles since the works were done last summer.
Police have closed the A500 between the M6 and Nantwich as fire crews tackle a lorry blaze.
A large amount of hay being transported by the lorry is on fire, and large plumes of smoke are covering the Shavington bypass carriageways.
The pothole-ridden A500 Shavington bypass near Nantwich is to close for two days to allow for urgent repairs. The eastbound lane heading away from Nantwich towards the M6 will be closed between 9.30am and 4pm on Thursday March 14.
