Families in Wistaston were flooded out of their homes today after a burst water main sent a deluge into their properties.
Residents woke up to find homes and gardens under six inches of water caused by the burst on Valley Road.
Thousands of other residents in the area were also left with no water or very low pressure for several hours.
Becks Hobbis, who lives alone, was woken at around 7.30am by a friend telling her the road around her house was flooded.
“I got up to see my house and the houses either side of me gardens and drives at least a foot under water!” she told Nantwichnews.
“I went downstairs to find it flooded to the first step – about six inches. The firemen came to check my electrics and to turn it off at the mains. The back garden was under about six inches too.
“Luckily the cats were upstairs with me and the rabbit’s run is built up so they were not affected. If only the cats a little distressed that they could not escape out due to the water.
“Police and firemen have been very helpful in providing helpers and shelter if needed. And the neighbours and friends have been great providing a laugh and hot water for a brew and a help in the clear up!”
It could be up to a week before the electrics are safe in Becks’ home, so she is having to move out and stay with family and friends.
“I’ve lost nothing of major value, just material items like furniture and the flooring and a few pairs of shoes that can be easily replaced.”
United Utilities sent a team of engineers to work on repairing the burst main at around 10am.
A spokesman said water supply was re-routed so supplies were restored to many properties at around midday, but with very low pressure.
“Water supply will return to normal as soon as the repair has been completed. We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” added the spokesman.
good day for ducks then!!!
I walked down to the Wistaston water leak earlier this eve. Several workmen from United Utilities are on the scene and have fenced off a large section of Valley Road around the mini-roundabout area at the Wistaston Green Road/Valley Road junction. They were digging a large trench on one side of the road and pumping water away at the opposite side of the road. Signage at the bottom of Joey the Swan stated the road ahead was closed, but the whole road as far up Valley Road as The Woodside pub at Woodside Lane was open to road traffic as usual. The pub must be losing a lot of money as a result, but accidents will happen.
