A company is to launch swimming lessons after breathing new life into a disused pool in Nantwich.
FineSwimming is currently renovating the indoor pool owned by Elim Church, on Regents Park, London Road.
And they hope to have work completed and the pool open for lessons and group bookings from September after a £60,000 revamp.
The 15m x 7m pool was used in the past by members of Elim’s former Theological College before it closed down and moved its headquarters to Malvern.
Iain Lassister, of FineSwimming, said they would be retaining the shell of the building but replacing all the core workings like filtration systems, plant room, heating, electrics.
“Everything you need to ensure a pool operates like clockwork will be new,” he told Nantwichnews.
“Remember it’s almost 30 years old, but has a lot of character so we want to retain the character of the building.”
The depth of the pool is 1m in the shallow end dropping to 1.5m in the deep part. A drop to a central drain down to 1.8m will be levelled out.
“This will allow us to offer in-water teacher support for all our lessons,” said Mr Lassiter, a former swimming club coach.
“As well as private lessons, we hope it will be used for hire by parties and groups in the local area.”
FineSwimming has a deal to run the pool for 10 years.
“We also have an option to purchase it from Elim which we may well do if it proves successful,” he added.
The company already runs swimming tuition at Weaverham Pool in Northwich and Beechwood Pool in Runcorn.
