Blyth FA Cup - Nantwich Town's Weaver Stadium, pre-season games, community football

Nantwich Town’s first pre-season encounter goes ahead at the Weaver Stadium today (July 14) – despite recent heavy rain.

The Dabbers begin their preparation for the 2012-13 season with a friendly at home to Altrincham.

And the club staff have been working around the clock to ensure the pitch is playable – and the game is definitely ON.

A spokesman said: “The Weaver Stadium pitch has been draining exceptionally well and with the sun bathing the stadium in a rare appearance this morning, everything is geared up for kick off at 3pm.”

Blue Square Bet North side Altrincham will provide a stern opening test for Jimmy Quinn’s side.

Quinn’s close season captures Mark Beesley, Fraser McLachlan and Lewis Short will all feature today as the team takes shape before their new Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division campaign.

Midfielder Christian Smith, who helped Chester to the league title last season, has been training with the club and is also set to be involved.

Meanwhile, Player of the Season goalkeeper Jon Brain is a doubt with a leg injury at work.

Former Macclesfield Town youth keeper Ryan Moss, who was with Eccleshall last season, has been brought in as cover.

Quinn and Assistant Martin Stubbs may also give game time to a number of trialists who have been taking part in pre-season training.
