Jimmy Quinn’s Nantwich Town crushed shell-shocked Matlock Town 5-0 in the opening 2012-13 league fixture.
And the victory will send a warning of intent to the rest of the Evo-Stik Premier League.
It’s 24 years since the Dabbers recorded such a convincing open day victory, in the days of Ronnie Jepson.
This time around, it was current striking sensation Kyle Wilson who continues to grab the headlines.
Wilson, who scored three hat-tricks in his first thee pre-season ganes for Nantwich, grabbed a brace at Matlock to set up the victory.
The former FC United man put the visitors ahead on the quarter hour and then strike partner Mark Beesley connected with Lewis Short’s cross to make it 2-0.
After the break, Wilson netted his second before Sean Cooke made it 4-0 with a trademark long ranger.
The Dabbers went nap when substitute Will Jones wrapped up a glorious opening day for their jubiliant travelling fans at the Reynolds Stadium.
Meanwhile, Quinn has further strengthened his squad with new signing, midfielder Christian Smith (pictured, right).
The 24-year-old has joined the Weaver Stadium outfit from Chester, who he helped to win the Evo-Stik Premier title and promotion last season.
Quinn’s side will hope to build on the result and performance when they host Kendal Town in the first home game of the season on Tuesday evening.
Nantwich: Brain, Lowe (Smith), McDonald, Flynn, Bailey, Hughes (Maguire), Cooke, McLachlan, Beesley (Jones), Wilson, Short. Unused subs: Campbell, Lane.
