Nantwich CC 1sts battled to a tremendous 19-run victory away at Hyde to keep their title hat-trick hopes alive.

The win against third-placed fellow title contenders earned Nantwich 25 valuable points as they continue a good run of form.

The visitors were put into bat by Hyde, and opener Jonny Kettle proved the backbone of the innings with a strong 78.

With reasonable contributions from Ollie Law, Louis Bentley and Chris Simpson, it was left to Sam Hunt (39 not out) and skipper Andy Newton (15 not out) to guide Nantwich to 214-7 off their 55 overs.

This set up a decent total for the Nantwich attack to work towards – and they duly delivered.

Once Ray Doyle had snaffled the wickets of Danny Bert (59) and James Duffy (55), the visitors were on top.

Doyle grabbed a third, and then it was the Ollie Griffiths and Jimmy Warrington show to wrap up the innings.

Hyde were eventually skittled out for 195 midway through the 53rd over.

Griffiths returned the best bowling stats, with four wickets for 47 off 20.3 overs. Warrington finished on 2 fo 54, and Doyle 3 for 45.

The victory leaves Nantwich in fourth place on 244 points in the Cheshire County Premier League – just a point behind Hyde in third, and seven behind Oxton in second place.

Macclesfield, leaders on 278 points, are the visitors to Whitehouse Lane next Saturday August 25 – a make or break clash for the Dabbers in their pursuit of a third successive league crown.
