A young Nantwich woman is back in action when she becomes the first woman to compete in “Rage in the Cage” in Stoke-on-Trent next month.
Anya Lynette Hynes, 23, from Wrenbury, will fight in a semi-pro bout at the event in the Queen’s Theatre, Burslem.
It’s another big step for Anya, who works at Sainsbury’s in Nantwich, after she was involved in the first female “Combat Challenge” cage fight back in February.
The former Reaseheath College student took up martial arts after battling back from a life-threatening condition in her childhood.
Anya had acute myloid leukaemia and joined a “fighting fit” club in her local church hall as a way of building up her strength after overcoming the illness.
She took up kick-boxing nine years ago and has gone from strength to strength, including winning a silver medal in the British National Taekwondo Championships in November 2011.
Now she steps back into the “cage” on September 15 to face Jess Offermanns in a 55kg bout.
“My style is primarily taekwondo and kickboxing, while her style is wrestling and jujuitsu, so it should be a fascinating duel,” Anya told Nantwichnews.
The event starts at 6pm with a number of other fights on the bill.
Tickets are £25. Anya has some available so people can contact her on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/anya.hynes
