Leighton Hospital volunteers have been thanked as part of a 40-year celebration.

Volunteers from groups who work alongside Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust staff, attended the event.

And 11 who were acknowledged for their long-service were presented with awards by MCHFT chairman John Moran.

Monica Young and Olive Ward were recognised for their service of 15 and 20 years respectively with the ABC (After Breast Care) Association, while Anthea Taylor’s 16 years with the hospital broadcast service were also acknowledged.

Dot Riley, Joyce Southern, Valerie Wall and Alice Willacy were thanked for working in Outpatients over the past 40 years.

Also thanked were Betty Reay (30 years), Dot Madeley (20 years), Ann Smith (16 years) and Marina Roddy (15 years).

Mr Moran said: “We have around 350 devoted individuals who give their time to assist our patients and staff, each of whom help to improve the hospital experience of everyone they come into contact with.

“I am immensely proud and grateful for their commitment and dedication, and would like to thank them all on behalf of the Trust for their outstanding contributions.”

Four volunteers who retired following long service were also recognised.

Peter and Miriam Andrews retired as officers with the League of Friends organisation in April.

Miriam was a founding member of the League around 39 years ago, while Peter joined a year later.

They have overseen a variety of projects, including the opening of the Leighton Hospital shop and its trolley service.

Barbara Wilson retired recently from the hospital broadcast service after 33 years.

She presented her own programmes and in 1990 she became secretary of the organisation until her retirement.
