Nantwich Town’s Lewis Short is set to join Airbus UK after agreeing a deal with the Welsh Premier League outfit.
The winger is discussing personal terms with the Broughton-based club and looks set to sign early next week.
Nantwich Town officials say they “reluctantly” accepted an offer for Short, who could play in Europe next season as they sit second in the Welsh Premier table.
A Weaver Stadium spokesman said: “The club has recently received an approach and an offer from Airbus for Lewis Short and after talking with Lewis have reluctantly accepted their offer and allowed Lewis to discuss personal terms and undertake a medical and he should become an Airbus player early next week.
“Lewis has asked us to pass on his thanks to all of the staff and supporters of Nantwich Town, as he has really enjoyed his time here and was reluctant to leave.
“But with the realistic prospect of playing in Europe next season it was an opportunity he had to take to realise his ambition of progressing further in the game.”
Meanwhile, the weather has once again put paid to Nantwich Town’s hopes of playing away at Ilkeston FC today (January 26).
A pitch inspection at 9.30am today deemed the frozen Ilkeston pitch unplayable.
The Dabbers hope to return to action this coming Tuesday (January 29) when they host League One high-flyers Tranmere Rovers in an eagerly-awaited Cheshire Senior Cup tie (kick off 7.45pm).
