Angry residents in Nantwich have accused developers of “land snatching” in plans submitted for a 60-home site off Crewe Road.
Stewart Milne Homes wants to build the development on land surrounding the former Elim bible college at Regents Park.
But residents on Crewe Road, where the access route to the site would be, have hit out at the company after seeing the plans on Cheshire East Council’s website.
Peter Jackson says submitted drawings show a large strip of his land being swallowed up by the proposed access route, while neighbour Bob Humphreys is also set to lose land, according to the documents.
Mr Jackson said: “It looks to other people and our neighbours in Crewe Road that we’ve sold out and given part of our land to them.
“These plans split my driveway, and when I’ve tried to highlight this to the council I get no where.
“They clearly show a strip of my land a few metres wide and 40 metres long being used for this access route.
“I’ve lived here 25 years, and Stewart Milne haven’t even had the courtesy to hold a public forum to outline their plans.”
Mr Jackson and other residents attended a recent Nantwich Town Council meeting to voice concern at the proposals.
They say the access to the development will put people in danger, despite Stewart Milne Homes submitting a revised layout for the site, and adding an extra four homes to the original plans.
Mr Humphreys, an experienced highways engineer, spent £100 of his own money creating enlarged copies of the drawings to highlight their fears to town councillors.
He said: “I’m offended that Cheshire East Council has uploaded an A4 plan that you can’t even read.
“So I spent my own money to inform our neighbours and residents and make sure people could see the details of the plan for themselves. How can people be expected to comment otherwise?
“The company is taking the mickey over the visibility from the access road.”
Nantwichnews has contacted Stewart Milne Homes twice for comments, but the company has declined.
The plans are set to go before Cheshire East’s Southern Area Planning Committee next Wednesday June 26.
All very easy for Mr Jackson to say, he has a home.
My partner and myself cant wait for the development to take place and hope to be in a position to be able to purchase one as soon as possible.
Mr Jackson and his clan need to think of the broader picture and the boost to the local economy too.
