Nantwich CC 1sts suffered a home drubbing at the hands of Marple, slumping to a 160-run defeat.

The hosts, chasing 245, which skittled out for just 85 runs as they failed to deal with a potent away attack.

The defeat has put a major hole in Nantwich’s chances to chasing down the Cheshire County Premier League leaders.

Marple were put into bat by Nantwich, and were soon making their hosts for that decision.

Mark Bennett was their star man, smashing 92 from 97 balls, including 12 fours and 4 sixes.

He able supported by Andrew Hall (59), Jonathan Marshall (37) and Beau Webster (27).

They managed to see out their 55 overs, with Oliver Griffiths and Ray Doyle the pick of Nantwich’s bowling attack, grabbing four wickets each.

The 245 total was a big ask – and it became almost impossible when they lost their openers Jonny Kettle and Sam Hunt for just three runs between them.

Form man Liam Livingstone and Robert Cook-Sievewright soon followed, and only Doyle (23) and Ollie Law (20) provided any sort of resistance.

Pick of the Marple attack was Andrew Greasley, who claimed five wickets for 36 off 14.5 overs.

Nantwich’s poor run has seen them slump to fourth from bottom in the league, 61 points behind leaders Neston.

The 2nds were also soundly beaten, going down to an eight-wicket defeat away at Urmston.

The 4th team were beaten at Whitehouse Lane by five wickets by Runcorn, but the 3rds secured a thrilling 16-run victory at Sale after bowling their hosts out for 102.
