Nantwich Town crash to 2-0 defeat away at Buxton

A Lee Morris brace in the first 10 minutes sent Nantwich Town crashing to defeat for the first time in three weeks.

Buxton’s rapid start and solid defence meant the Dabbers struggled to fight their way back into the encounter at the Silverlands.

Buxton’s Morris got his side off to a flyer on two minutes after a mistake from centre back Russell Courtney had allowed him to shoot from inside the area.

Aaron Burns nodded down for Oliver Devenney on six minutes but the Nantwich midfielder dragged his shot wide.

Morris added his second on 10 minutes after good wing play from Craig King who drilled across goal.

It was a great example of positioning from the Bucks’ frontman.

Buxton’s Andy Warrington had to scramble to tip a long range Max Harrop shot on to the post on 24 minutes with the ball picking up pace on the wet surface. It was the closest the Dabbers came to scoring.

On 27 minutes, long shot specialist Devenney had his first effort of the game but it was well-saved by Warrington.

Buxton’s Matt Thornhill stung Terry Smith’s palms on 45+1 minutes after a long period without a shot in anger.

Buxton started the second half well with Morris and King threatening with long range shots.

Smith did well to keep out a Thornhill stinger on 58 minutes. Though it was straight at him it carried great power.

Only seconds later the Buck’s Tim Niven looked to have extended their lead but his shot slid agonizingly wide.

Smith made another reaction save on 68 minutes from Thornhill’s close shot.
