Blyth FA Cup - Nantwich Town's Weaver Stadium, pre-season games, community football

Danny Johnson could welcome a new keeper to Nantwich Town in time to face high-flying Chorley.

The Dabbers boss is hoping to register 23-year-old Jack Cudworth (pictured) who could make his debut at Weaver Stadium.

Johnson’s side had current keeper Terry Smith to thank for keeping the scoreline down to 2-0 defeat away at Buxton on Saturday.

Smith stopper played through the pain barrier to perform second half heroics to deny the Buxton strikeforce.

But Cudworth, the former Preston North End youth, could step in to make his debut against the club he left in the summer.

The Nantwich injury list is mounting, though, with Earl Davis (hamstring) and Danny Caldecott (thigh) needing treatment as well as Smith.

Mat Bailey and Ben Deegan are also battling to be match fit.

Third-placed Chorley will come in to the game fresh as they were without a fixture on Saturday.

The Magpies will hope to repeat their previous visit to the Weaver Stadium when they won 1-0 back in March.

Kick off is at 7.45pm tonight (Tuesday October 15) and the England-Poland World Cup qualifying match will be shown live on the big screen in the bar.

Meanwhile, top scorer Aaron Burns has been voted player of the month for September by the Nantwich Town Independent Supporters Association.

Burns scored six goals in seven games, including a brace in the 1-5 away win versus Stocksbridge Park Steels.

NTISA member Craig T Wright said: “He celebrates with fans and often acknowledges us during the games, his work rate and he does it all in under the full 90 mins.

“Personally I love a Non-League player who acknowledges the fans, celebrates with them etc, it’s how it used to be and how it should be, especially at Nantwich, in it together.”

NTISA Vice Chairman, Ian Garnett, praised Burns’ impressive goal tally and also enjoys how the striker shares his goal celebrations with the Nantwich fans.
