A brace from Ben Deegan (pictured) helped Nantwich Town ease into the next round of the FA Trophy with a 3-0 win at Droylsden.

Danny Johnson’s men produced a strong second half performance against the Evo-Stik Premier League’s bottom club.

Three second period goals sent the Dabbers into the second qualifying round in front of a little over 200 fans.

Nantwich top scorer Aaron Burns opened the scoring on 62 minutes, before Ben Deegan made the game safe on 77 minutes.

Two minutes from time Deegan popped again to fire home the third.

The victory comes after two league defeats against Buxton and Chorley in which Nantwich had failed to score and has left them just above the relegation zone.

But Johnson is confident his side is starting to settle after a lot of new arrivals in the summer.

“We’ve got a very good group of players,” he said.

“The fact of the matter remains it’s not happened for us on the pitch but we are a brand new team.

“It is a long-term plan, the club can’t keep swapping and changing like we’ve done this year.”

Nantwich return to league action tomorrow night (Monday October 21) away at eighth-placed Ilkeston FC.

They welcome 16th-placed Barwell to the Weaver Stadium next Saturday October 26.
