Nantwich Town boss Danny Johnson has hailed the capture of Crewe Alexandra goalkeeper Steve Phillips.

The Dabbers manager has confirmed that a deal has been agreed and that Phillips will be officially signing for Nantwich Town Football Club on Tuesday.

Phillips, who helped the Alex win promotion and triumph in the Johnstone Paint Trophy final at Wembley in the last two seasons, could line up against his old team-mates in Nantwich’s friendly against Crewe on July 13.

“Everything has been agreed,” said Johnson.

“We have shaken on a deal and the paperwork will be ratified over the next couple of days.

“I look forward to welcoming Steve Phillips to Nantwich Town Football Club and look forward to working with a player of his experience.

“Since leaving Crewe Alexandra at the end of last season Steve has taken a coaching position with Liverpool Football Club and wants to play for his local non league club,” continued the Nantwich boss.

“We had a great meeting on Wednesday, Steve trained with the lads on Thursday and the paperwork will be completed on Tuesday.

“The club is fully aware of the excellent work Steve does for his charities and we will be looking to support him in any way we possibly can.

“We are working hard behind the scenes to develop community cohesion as the club has always been based around local people.

“Steve will receive lots of support from myself, my management team, the players and everyone connected with the club, it’s a great fit.”
