Sport England Free Sport

Sporty Nantwich youngsters can enjoy free activity Sport England sessions throughout the summer holidays.

Crewe Vagrants sports ground, in Willaston, will host sessions in rugby, cricket, hockey, squash and football.

The initiative is funded by Sport England, and will give children a chance to stay active during the school break.

The sessions are organised and run by Sporting Communities Community Interest Company.

Sporting Communities coach Ben Rigby said: “Yes, it’s really free!

“Sport England have helped to support the programme, however their target age is 14+ so the February and Easter half terms were more targeted at those groups.

“As we are a not-for-profit group, we invest any “profits” back into the community and this seemed like a good way to do so.

“Each session will consist of a series of fun games and activities themed around the five sports on offer rather than specific coaching.”

The sessions start this Monday July 28, with rugby on Mondays, cricket on Tuesdays and hockey on Wednesdays. These will run 9am to 12.30pm, targeted at ages 8 to 14 yr olds.

On Thursdays, there will be squash sessions 10am to 12pm for ages 8 to 11, and 12.30pm to 2.30pm for 12 to 16 year olds.

And on Fridays, football sessions will run 9am to 12.30pm, again for 8 to 14 year olds.

Sessions will end on August 29.

Parents who bring children to any of the sessions will need to complete a consent form on the day or bring one with them.
